Lily Allen Marks 40th Birthday Amid David Harbour Split

Lily Allen has turned 40, but her celebrations were tinged with emotional weight following her recent split from husband David Harbour.

The singer and actress, known for her candidness, took to Instagram over the weekend to thank friends and family who helped her mark the milestone “under some tricky circumstances.” Her understated message followed a tumultuous few months in which her separation from the Stranger Things star became public knowledge.

Lily and David, 50, tied the knot in 2020 after meeting on the celebrity dating app Raya. But cracks began to show late last year when Lily spoke of not being in a “great place mentally.” Shortly after, reports confirmed the couple had quietly split, with further claims emerging that Harbour had rejoined dating apps while still married and had allegedly been involved in a secret three-year relationship with a costume designer he met on set.

Adding to the public scrutiny, Harbour appeared to go public earlier this year with a new partner, a model and aspiring actress 22 years his junior, just months after the split.

Despite the upheaval, Lily was surrounded by close friends on her birthday, including Miss Me? podcast co-host Miquita Oliver, designers Kim Jones and Katie Hillier, and Miquita’s mother, chef and TV presenter Andi Oliver. Sharing a photo of her birthday cake adorned with the words “Lily 40,” she wrote:
“Thank you to all my beauty friends and family who showed up for me and made my birthday a special one under some tricky circumstances. Love you all.”

She also posted a pair of striking selfies in a sheer blue camisole top, captioning them simply: “Happy Birthday to me.”

Her godmother, Rose Boyt, daughter of the late artist Lucian Freud, paid a heartfelt tribute, writing:
“What a woman… Still as beloved, still as beautiful, still as creative, imaginative and bold. So happy to be on her team.”

David Harbour has remained relatively quiet about the split, but when asked about it by GQ, he replied only: “Oh boy.”
He added:
“It’s not that things ending aren’t hard, but I’m choosing to make it a period of growth. Having the opportunity to be busy and work is really good, and also to delve into this deeper spiritual quest…”

The actor has since been spotted without his wedding ring, most recently at the Thunderbolts premiere in London.

For Lily, her 40th may not have been the celebration she once envisioned, but it seems she’s finding strength in her inner circle as she navigates this new chapter.
