Liam Gallagher has hit back at Edinburgh Council after internal safety documents reportedly described Oasis fans as “rowdy middle-aged men” who are likely to drink to “medium to high intoxication” during the band’s upcoming reunion concerts.
The outspoken frontman took to social media to vent his anger after The Scottish Sun revealed excerpts from council briefings ahead of the band’s highly anticipated shows at Murrayfield Stadium on August 8, 9, and 12.
Oasis, back together for a historic tour, will play to more than 210,000 fans across the three nights, but the tone of the briefing documents has struck a sour chord with the band’s frontman.
“To the Edinburgh council I’ve heard what you said about OASIS fans and quite frankly your attitude ****ing stinks,” Liam wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
He didn’t stop there. In a follow-up post, he added: “I’d leave town that day if I was any of you lot,” and took further aim, writing: “I’d love to see a picture of all the people on the Edinburgh council, bet there’s some real STUNING, sic, individuals.”
The documents reportedly raise concerns that the shows could disrupt the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which takes place throughout August and brings in up to three million visitors.
Murrayfield has hosted a number of large concerts in recent years
Council officials also appeared to take aim at the physicality of the band’s fanbase, stating: “Middle-aged men take up more room. Consider this when working out capacity.”
Fans have since rallied behind Gallagher online, with many calling the comments “snobbish” and “out of touch”, particularly considering the legacy and impact Oasis has had on British music.
With tensions already flaring and the reunion shows drawing near, this spat between the council and one of music’s most iconic frontmen could end up overshadowing one of the year’s biggest gigs.
