Lana Del Rey Spreads Her Wings with Haunting New Single ‘Bluebird’

Lana Del Rey has unveiled ‘Bluebird’, the second offering from her upcoming, and still untitled, new album, and it's every bit as melancholic and mesmerising as fans hoped.

The acoustic country ballad, which dropped just days after the ethereal ‘Henry, Come On’, sees Del Rey continue her foray into Americana-tinged storytelling. Co-written with Nashville songwriter Luke Laird and produced by long-time collaborator Drew Erickson, ‘Bluebird’ is a delicate, stripped-back track that leans into themes of fragility, freedom, and quiet heartbreak. Over gentle strumming and soft piano, Lana croons: “Fly away for both of us / For you have wings and I’ve no means to fly / Little bird, bluebird / Find some strength inside my hand / Anything to let you sing goodbye.” It’s haunting, poetic, and quintessentially Lana.

The single is believed to be part of her forthcoming 10th studio album, which has undergone several name changes over the past year. Originally announced under the title ‘The Right Person Will Stay’, and before that, ‘Lasso’, the album has been delayed beyond its original May 21 release date, with Del Rey herself teasing fans that it may arrive later than planned. “I mean, you know it’s not going to come on time, right?” she admitted in a now-deleted Instagram post, also hinting that the title had once again changed.

While an official track list and release date remain under wraps, the album has been described by Del Rey as “predominantly country,” a genre she has long flirted with but never fully committed to, until now. In a previous post, she thanked Jack Antonoff, Luke Laird, and Erickson for their “beautiful work” on the record, which she described as something new but still rooted in her signature melodic style.

Speaking to NME last year, Lana hinted that the new material might be less confessional and more melodic than some of her recent work. “I’ve maybe less to say in terms of any self-revealing things like on ‘Tunnel’ or ‘Blue Bannisters’... maybe more American Songbook style?” she mused.

Despite the uncertainty around the album’s release, Del Rey has kept busy. Her last solo release prior to ‘Henry, Come On’ was 2023’s ‘Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd’, while her collaboration with Quavo on ‘Tough’ saw her branching into new sonic territory.

Meanwhile, the ‘Cherry’ singer is preparing to hit the road this summer for a massive UK and Ireland stadium tour. With dates in Cardiff, Glasgow, Liverpool, Dublin, and two sold-out nights at London’s Hyde Park, Lana has cemented her status as one of the most in-demand live acts of 2025, and the highest-selling solo artist of the year so far.

As ‘Bluebird’ takes flight, fans wait with bated breath to see where Lana Del Rey’s country era will go next. If the first two singles are anything to go by, the album, whenever it arrives, is shaping up to be something truly special.
