After eight dazzling seasons, Loraine Barry has announced that she is stepping down as Head Judge on Dancing With The Stars Ireland. The much-loved RTE star revealed the news in an emotional Instagram post that has left fans both surprised and saddened.
Barry, who joined the show at its launch in 2017, has been a central figure on the judging panel, offering expert critiques and heartfelt encouragement to contestants. Over the years, she became a fixture of Sunday night television, known for her grace, sharp eye for detail, and warm rapport with dancers and viewers alike.
In her farewell message, Barry reflected on her journey:
“After eight wonderful seasons, I have decided it’s the right time for me to stand down from my role as head judge on Dancing with the Stars Ireland. I’m very grateful for the memories, friendships, and the enormous amount of joy shared throughout the years. It’s a wonderful family show that I have loved being a part of.”
A tough year behind the scenes
The news comes at a particularly emotional time for Barry. Earlier this year, she suffered two personal tragedies with the passing of her former husband, Andrew Sinkinson, and her beloved mother, both in January. Despite these hardships, Barry continued to bring energy and professionalism to the dance floor, earning admiration for her resilience.
Tributes pour in
Barry’s announcement was met with an outpouring of love from fans and colleagues.
Host Doireann Garrihy commented:
“Grateful to have worked alongside you Loraine, you will be so missed in the ballroom. A legend and a lady!”
Presenter James Patrice added:
“A lady and a legend both on and off camera.”
Social media was also filled with messages from fans who praised Barry for her elegance, knowledge, and kindness, with many expressing how much they will miss her presence on the show.
A legacy of dance and passion
Before her TV fame, Barry was already an internationally acclaimed ballroom dancer. Her glittering career saw her become a world champion, representing Ireland on the global stage. With her move to television, she brought that same passion and expertise into Irish living rooms, inspiring audiences and dancers alike.
Her departure raises the question of who will take her place as Head Judge. RTE has yet to announce a successor, but whoever steps into the role will have big shoes to fill.
For Barry, the future looks bright as she closes one chapter and looks ahead to new opportunities, both personal and professional. While she may be leaving the Dancing With The Stars ballroom, her impact on the show, and on Irish television, will not be forgotten.
