LINE OF DUTY IS BACK! BBC CONFIRMS HIT POLICE DRAMA WILL RETURN FOR SERIES SEVEN

The wait is finally over for Line of Duty fans, the BBC’s award-winning police drama is officially returning for Series 7, five years after its last explosive finale.

Reports say the broadcaster is preparing a major announcement to confirm the comeback of the hit show, which became one of Britain’s biggest TV dramas of the last decade.

The iconic anti-corruption unit AC-12 will once again be taking down “bent coppers,” with all three leading stars, Martin Compston, Vicky McClure, and Adrian Dunbar, expected to reprise their roles as DI Steve Arnott, DI Kate Fleming, and Superintendent Ted Hastings.

The BBC is reportedly planning the perfect moment to make the big reveal, but insiders have confirmed that filming is due to begin in the first half of 2026, with the show likely to hit screens later that year or in early 2027.

The news follows months of speculation after Compston and Dunbar dropped heavy hints during interviews and fan appearances earlier this year.

Speaking at a live event in July, Compston teased fans by saying:

“We’ve spoken to Jed Mercurio recently… let’s just say, the conversation was very interesting.”

Meanwhile, Dunbar added fuel to the fire, hinting that AC-12’s unfinished business might not be over just yet.

“There’s always a possibility. We love working together, and the fans keep asking for it. Never say never,” he said.

The last series of Line of Duty, which aired in 2021, drew more than 12.8 million viewers for its finale, one of the most-watched drama episodes in BBC history. The series concluded with the shocking unmasking of the elusive “H,” leaving fans divided and demanding more answers.

Although creator Jed Mercurio has remained tight-lipped, it’s believed that the new series will tackle the fallout of that revelation, exploring how AC-12 rebuilds trust and authority after years of corruption scandals within the force.

BBC sources have described the return as a “high-stakes comeback” that will “reward loyal fans and reignite the nation’s love for proper Sunday night drama.”

The BBC is expected to make an official announcement before the end of the year, confirming production details and reuniting the core cast in a teaser image that’s sure to send fans wild.

For now, one thing’s certain, Line of Duty’s signature tension, plot twists, and quotable Ted Hastings one-liners (“Mother of God!”) will be back on our screens before too long.

It’s been a long wait, but the nation’s favourite anti-corruption team is gearing up for one more case… and possibly their toughest yet.
