In true Lily Allen fashion, the chart-topping singer is about to pull off one of the music industry’s biggest surprises, by releasing a “secret” new album that no one saw coming.
According to sources close to the star, the Smile and Not Fair hitmaker has quietly completed her fifth studio album, which was written and recorded in an astonishing ten days. It marks her first release in seven years since 2018’s No Shame and is said to be her most emotional and raw work to date.
An insider revealed:
“Lily wants to really surprise people with this new music and everyone has been sworn to secrecy. It will tell the story of her move to New York and also how she coped with the breakdown of her marriage to David Harbour. There’s a real outpouring of emotions in it. She’s not had the easiest time and she’s ready to bare her soul.”
The star, who has recently been focusing on her acting career, appearing in the West End and Broadway productions of The Pillowman, has reportedly signed a new record deal with BMG, the same label that manages the likes of Kylie Minogue and Rita Ora.
Although there have been few public hints that Lily has been working on new material, insiders say the album is complete and ready to drop sooner than anyone expects. The surprise release is expected to mirror the unconventional, rebellious style that has defined Allen’s career since her 2006 debut, Alright, Still.
The album is said to draw heavily from her experiences relocating to New York, where she has been living with her two daughters since 2020. It also delves into her personal struggles and emotional healing following her reported separation from Stranger Things actor David Harbour, whom she married in 2020.
Allen, now 40, has never shied away from expressing her personal life through her lyrics, from fame and motherhood to heartbreak and recovery. Her upcoming record reportedly continues that tradition, weaving together her signature wit, vulnerability, and social commentary.
The source added:
“Lily has always worn her heart on her sleeve, but this record feels like her most personal work yet. She’s been through a lot in the past few years, and writing this album has been like therapy for her.”
Fans can also expect a 2026 world tour to coincide with the 20th anniversary of her debut album, Alright, Still, the record that brought us timeless hits like LDN and Smile.
If confirmed, it will mark a powerful comeback for one of Britain’s most outspoken and beloved pop voices, a return to music that no one saw coming, but everyone will be talking about.
