The 75-year-old rock legend reportedly crashed his Lincoln Navigator into a parked car on the Pacific Coast Highway after losing consciousness behind the wheel.
According to NBC4 Los Angeles, emergency services were called to the scene on Tuesday afternoon after witnesses reported a collision involving Simmons’ vehicle. Sources told the outlet that the musician “passed out or fainted” moments before the crash, prompting concern for his health.
Fortunately, Simmons did not sustain any major injuries and has since been discharged from hospital. He is now said to be resting comfortably at home, according to his wife, Shannon Tweed, who reassured fans that he is on the mend.
In a brief statement to local media, Simmons confirmed: “I’m doing fine, just taking it easy. It was a bit of a scare, but I’m okay.”
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department also confirmed the details of the incident, noting that Simmons had informed deputies he lost consciousness before the impact. No other individuals were injured in the crash, and there was no indication of alcohol or drugs being a factor.
Witnesses described seeing the black SUV drift slowly into a parked vehicle before coming to a stop. Paramedics attended the scene immediately, and Simmons was transported to a nearby hospital as a precaution.
Fans around the world were quick to express their relief after hearing that the legendary KISS bassist and co-founder is recovering. Social media was flooded with well wishes from followers and fellow musicians, many of whom grew up with Simmons’ music and larger-than-life stage persona.
One fan wrote, “Gene’s one of the toughest guys in rock, glad to hear he’s okay. We can’t lose another legend!” Another added, “He’s given us decades of music and madness, wishing him a speedy recovery.”
Simmons’ wife, Shannon, shared an update via Instagram on Wednesday, thanking fans for their messages of support. “Gene is home and recovering,” she wrote. “It was frightening, but he’s doing much better and resting. We’re so grateful it wasn’t worse.”
The health scare comes less than a year after KISS wrapped up their “End of the Road” farewell tour, which concluded in New York in December 2023. The band have since launched a digital version of themselves as avatars, allowing their legacy to continue virtually for future generations of fans.
Known for his stamina and showmanship, Simmons has rarely slowed down in his five-decade career. He has been a driving force behind KISS since their formation in 1973, helping to turn the band into one of the most recognisable and influential acts in rock history.
While Simmons has faced occasional health issues over the years, including a bout of dehydration in 2019, he has always bounced back with his signature determination and sense of humour.
For now, the Demon of Rock is taking a well-earned rest at home, surrounded by family, and, no doubt, grateful to be alive.
