Comedian Joe Lycett has given fans a rare and heartfelt glimpse into his private life, opening up about becoming a father and embracing a new chapter of domestic bliss.
In a new interview with Radio Times, the much-loved funnyman revealed that he is “loving” being a dad and described this period of his life as a “very happy, golden era.”
Lycett shocked fans back in October when he casually announced that he had welcomed a baby boy with his long-time but rarely spoken about partner, known only to the public as "Denise." Until then, the Travel Man star had kept his personal life largely under wraps, leaving many stunned, and delighted, by the news.
Now, as he balances fatherhood with his ever-evolving career, Lycett seems to be thriving. “I love it,” he told the magazine. “I’m in a very happy, golden era of my life right now.”
He even painted a vivid picture of his new home life, describing the view from his sofa with his signature charm: “There’s a pram and loads of nappies in the room… alongside my TV, an easel, and my Baftas.” The juxtaposition of parenthood and professional accolades paints a clear picture of a man comfortably juggling both worlds.
And it seems baby life hasn’t stopped the laughter. Lycett shared that he and his partner have been enjoying “baby cinema”, special film screenings that welcome parents with young children, calling it “a family activity” and “so fun.”
The comedian is currently promoting his upcoming travel series for Sky, which sees him visiting various towns called Birmingham around the globe, a fitting premise for the Birmingham-born star. Known for his playful irreverence and sharp wit, Lycett has long blended humour with heart, whether he's trolling corporations, championing social issues, or now, changing nappies between takes.
His new role as a father adds yet another layer to the public’s perception of Joe Lycett, not just as a comedian and activist, but now as a proud and loving dad. And from the sound of it, parenthood suits him just as well as the punchlines.
With a baby in one arm and a Bafta in the other, Joe Lycett seems to be embracing life’s newest chapter with a smile, and plenty of nappies.
