Jamie Oliver is cooking up something new, and this time, it's coming straight from his own back garden. The celebrity chef has submitted plans to launch a takeaway bakery on the grounds of his historic Essex estate, Spains Hall.
Oliver, 48, hopes to transform a former stable block on the Grade I listed property into a pop-up bakery serving up a tempting selection of fresh baked goods, sandwiches, and artisan coffee, all to go.
The proposed venture, if approved by local planning authorities, would run for an initial month-long trial throughout August, open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm. It's a move that brings Jamie’s passion for food closer to home, quite literally, while also offering locals a unique foodie experience in a stunning countryside setting.
Spains Hall, Oliver’s sprawling 16th-century estate in rural Essex, dates back to around 1570 and is known for its rich history and picturesque surroundings. The chef, who has long championed fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients, seems keen to fuse modern flavours with the property’s rustic charm.
Documents submitted to the local council outline plans to retain the historic character of the building while making minimal, sympathetic adjustments for the temporary bakery setup. If the trial is a success, it could pave the way for future pop-ups or seasonal events hosted on the estate.
Fans of Jamie Oliver’s homegrown approach to cooking will no doubt be thrilled by the idea of sampling his baked creations straight from his family estate. It’s not the first time Oliver has ventured into community-focused food projects, he previously opened restaurants like Fifteen and Jamie’s Italian with a focus on training young chefs and promoting better eating habits.
