The tension inside the castle might have been sky-high, but Jonathan Ross has officially put rumours of a feud with his Celebrity Traitors co-star Ruth Codd to rest.
The legendary TV presenter, who recently appeared on the hit BBC reality game show, became the target of online gossip after an explosive on-screen fallout with The Midnight Club actress Ruth Codd. Fans were quick to speculate that the pair were no longer on speaking terms after Ruth called him a “snake” following her dramatic exit from the show.
However, Jonathan has now spoken out to set the record straight, and insists there’s absolutely no bad blood between them.
Speaking on his Reel Talk podcast, Ross explained that the supposed feud has been blown out of proportion and that the atmosphere among the cast was far friendlier than viewers might think.
“I don’t think there was anyone there I didn’t like,” he said. “Obviously, some people leave earlier than other people so you don’t get to spend as long with them. So you know, the younger people who went out earlier, I didn’t get to spend as much time with Niko or Ruth. I’ve spoken to them both since and all our lives are different, but I think certainly we were friendly when we met, so there’s no beef there. But I’d like to think that we could become friends.”
Ruth, who gained a devoted following after her breakout role in Netflix’s The Midnight Club, was reportedly furious after being eliminated early in the series, and insiders say that she was still reeling when she confronted Jonathan.
According to sources close to the show, Ruth correctly guessed that Jonathan was one of the Traitors before her elimination, and when he later “murdered” her in the game, she took the betrayal personally.
“She was frustrated,” a production insider told The Sun. “She had Jonathan’s number early on and called him out as a Traitor before being killed off. She felt she didn’t get to play the game as long as she should have and took her anger out on him in the moment.”
The drama didn’t end there, though, last week’s tense roundtable saw Jonathan himself banished by the rest of the celebrity cast, bringing his game to an end.
Despite the on-screen fireworks, the veteran broadcaster has maintained that the experience was a lot of fun, and that his respect for Ruth remains intact.
He added during his podcast:
“It’s a great show, and everyone involved made it special. I think people forget that what you see is edited for drama, we all got on really well, and I’d happily work with Ruth again.”
Fans of the show have applauded Jonathan for taking the high road, with many on social media calling him “a class act” and praising his candid take on the situation. Others noted that the tension between the pair made for some of the series’ most gripping moments.
As for whether the two stars might reunite for a future Celebrity Traitors event or even collaborate on another project, Jonathan left the door wide open, and fans are already hoping for a friendly reunion after the cameras stop rolling.
