Snooker great Jimmy White is chalking up an entirely new role, this time, not on the green baize, but in front of the cameras.
The 61-year-old sports icon is set to appear in a brand-new television crime drama titled Write to Kill, based on the popular novel by best-selling author David P. Perlmutter. This marks White’s most high-profile foray into the acting world and promises to be a must-watch for both sports fans and crime drama lovers.
In the show, White will take on a cameo role as the director of an estate agency, but with a twist fitting for the snooker legend. His character is tasked with firing the drama’s main character… in a snooker hall, no less.
The gritty drama follows the story of an aspiring author struggling with writer’s block and financial ruin, who is suddenly offered a substantial sum of money in exchange for committing a heinous crime. Described as “a psychological spiral of ambition, desperation, and moral conflict,” the series looks set to offer viewers plenty of edge-of-your-seat moments.
The show is currently in pre-production and will be filmed in both London and New York, giving it a sleek, international tone. A-list talent has already signed on, including The Reckoning actress Charlotte Kirk, Hunger Games star Elena Sanchez, and Lillee Jean Trueman is slated to direct.
“Jimmy brings a cool, natural presence to the screen,” a production source told Deadline. “And his scene is a clever nod to his roots in the world of snooker.”
White, a six-time World Championship finalist, is no stranger to television audiences thanks to his long and colourful career in professional snooker, punditry, and reality TV appearances. However, this marks one of his first ventures into scripted drama, a step that fans are already calling “unexpected but brilliant.”
Write to Kill is expected to air in late 2025, with more casting announcements on the horizon.
