Could James Corden be swapping Hollywood for City Hall? That’s the question on everyone’s lips this week after sensational claims in The Mail on Sunday that the British comedian and actor is being tipped to run for Mayor of London.
The rumours began swirling after Corden made an unexpected appearance at the Bafta television awards last Sunday. According to reports, the former Late Late Show host was introduced to the hosts of the popular Electoral Dysfunction podcast. During the encounter, he reportedly revealed his newfound fascination with the world of politics to some very notable figures.
Corden was said to be deep in conversation with Sky News' political editor Beth Rigby, former Labour deputy leader Harriet Harman, and former Scottish Conservatives leader Ruth Davidson. It was there that the idea of him running for Mayor of London was first floated.
An onlooker at the event revealed: "James told them he was a regular listener to their podcast and how much he enjoys the cut and thrust of politics. He clearly has a lot of respect for those who put themselves out there and run for office."
The insider added, "And it was suggested that he should step into the political arena and stand in the future. There was talk that he should run for Mayor of London."
