Inside Netflix’s First ‘Steamy’ Medical Drama With a Wild Twist

Netflix is diving into the world of medical dramas with its first-ever English-language hospital series, Pulse. But this isn’t just another Grey’s Anatomy—the streaming giant is promising a steamy, high-stakes drama packed with unexpected twists, complex relationships, and a heart-pounding natural disaster.

The series follows Danny, played by Scream’s Willa Fitzgerald, a third-year medical resident who is unexpectedly thrust into the role of chief resident in the emergency department of Miami’s Maguire Hospital. Her sudden promotion comes after the respected chief resident, Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell), is suspended under mysterious circumstances. However, there’s a catch, Xander isn’t just her mentor; he’s also the man she’s secretly in love with.

As Danny struggles to prove herself in the ER, the tension between her and Xander builds, especially as their complicated romance threatens to spill out into the hospital corridors. But Pulse isn’t just about workplace drama, the stakes skyrocket when a hurricane forces the hospital into lockdown, flooding it with trauma patients and pushing Danny to her limits.

The recently released trailer has already drawn comparisons to Grey’s Anatomy, with fans eager for another addictive medical drama. “I love medical dramas, especially when they bring in suspense and wild twists. Can’t wait for this,” one fan wrote. Another excited viewer added, “Looks like a good one, I’m all in!”

The 10-episode series was created by Zoe Robyn (The Equalizer), who has promised a raw and authentic look at workplace relationships under extreme pressure. “We wanted Pulse to show the reality of a high-intensity medical job,” Robyn said in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum. “The characters aren’t superheroes, they’re real people navigating love, ambition, and the challenges of working together in a pressure cooker.”

Alongside Fitzgerald and Woodell, the show’s cast includes Jack Bannon, Jessie T. Usher, Chelsea Muirhead, Daniela Nieves, and Jessy Yates.

With its mix of romance, workplace conflict, and pulse-pounding medical emergencies, Pulse is shaping up to be Netflix’s next big drama obsession.
