Alison Hammond looks set to make an even bigger splash on our screens as she takes on hosting duties for the long-awaited reboot of Hole in the Wall.
BBC bosses have reportedly chosen the much-loved presenter to front the revival of the cult game show, which originally aired between 2008 and 2009. Known for its hilarious format, where celebrities in tight silver suits try to contort themselves through bizarre cut-outs in a moving wall (or else get shoved into a pool). Hole in the Wall became an instant classic of Saturday night television.
According to The Mirror, Alison impressed BBC execs during filming of a pilot episode earlier this year, which has now been given the green light for a full series.
A source close to the production said:
“Alison made a splash in the pilot so it was a no-brainer for bosses. It’s the perfect fit for her. It’s fun, exciting and doesn’t take itself too seriously, just like Alison.”
The original series was hosted by the late Dale Winton, with Strictly Come Dancing star Anton Du Beke later stepping in to lead the show during its second run. Both presenters leaned into the show’s over-the-top charm, and insiders believe Alison will bring her own infectious humour and warmth to the role.
Alison, 49, is already a national treasure thanks to her work on This Morning, The Great British Bake Off, and countless reality TV appearances, and viewers have long praised her for being able to laugh at herself and put guests at ease, ideal qualities for a show that thrives on silliness.
Fans are thrilled at the prospect of seeing her helm the new series, with social media already buzzing with calls for her to bring her trademark giggle to the poolside commentary.
Although the exact air date has not been confirmed, filming is understood to begin later this summer, with the BBC expected to announce more details, including a celebrity line-up, in the coming weeks.
For fans of nostalgia and chaos, this reboot promises to be just what Saturday nights need: big laughs, big personalities, and even bigger splashes. And with Alison in charge, we’re already expecting plenty of belly laughs, and maybe even a few belly flops.
