Steps star Faye Tozer has reportedly separated from her husband Mick Smith, ending their 16-year marriage just weeks before Christmas. The 48-year-old singer, who has been a familiar face on the pop scene since the 90s, is said to have moved out of their South Tyneside home amid mounting speculation about the state of their relationship.
Concerns about the couple’s split began to surface after Mick shared a series of emotional messages on social media, including a heartbreak-themed quote that read: “I met you when I wasn’t looking for you, and lost you when I loved you the most.” The cryptic post, coupled with news of Faye’s departure from their marital home, has left fans speculating about the cause of the breakup.
Despite once describing Mick as her “rock” and “partner in crime,” it appears the couple’s relationship has hit a rough patch. Speaking to MailOnline this week, Mick confirmed the separation but remained tight-lipped about the details, saying only, “We’re going through some things and trying to work stuff out. That’s all I’ll say.”
Friends and neighbours of the couple have expressed their shock at the news, describing Faye and Mick as a “lovely couple” who were often seen walking their dogs together or enjoying a drink at their local pub. “They always seemed so happy together. It’s such a shame,” one neighbour told reporters.
Speculation has also been fuelled by whispers of a ‘Strictly curse,’ with some fans recalling Faye’s stint on Strictly Come Dancing in 2018, where she was partnered with professional dancer Giovanni Pernice. Although there is no suggestion of any wrongdoing, the so-called curse, where celebrity contestants find their relationships strained after appearing on the show, has become a well-known phenomenon.
