Grantchester to End After 11 Years as ITV Confirms Final Series

ITV has confirmed that its much-loved Sunday night drama Grantchester will come to an end after 11 remarkable years on air.

The broadcaster announced today that the eleventh and final series of the popular detective drama has already begun filming, marking the end of an era for fans who have followed the show since its debut in 2014.

Based on The Grantchester Mysteries by James Runcie, the series has charmed millions with its perfect blend of period intrigue, murder mysteries, and the heartwarming friendship between clergymen and detectives set in 1950s Cambridgeshire.

The final series will see former Hollyoaks star Rishi Nair reprise his role as the charismatic vicar Alphy Kottaram, having taken over from Tom Brittney’s Reverend Will Davenport in series 9. Rishi will once again join forces with Robson Green, who returns as Geordie Keating, alongside much-loved cast members Tessa Peake-Jones as Mrs. C, Kacey Ainsworth as Cathy Keating, and Oliver Dimsdale as Daniel Marlowe.

The show’s creator and writer, Daisy Coulam, reflected on the decision to close the chapter:

“At its heart, Grantchester is a show about the power of friendship and love. We’ve been so lucky over the last 11 series to experience that on and off screen.

For over a decade now, cast and crew, many of whom have been there since the beginning, have met each summer to film. And it’s been an absolute joy. Thank you to James Runcie for entrusting us with his characters, thank you to the lovely people of real Grantchester, and thank you to everyone who’s been a part of the show in any way, big or small.

I’ll miss you terribly.”

ITV has yet to confirm an air date for the final series, but it is expected to hit screens in 2025.

For fans who have followed the highs and lows of the Grantchester parish for over a decade, the final series promises to be an emotional farewell to one of Britain’s best-loved dramas.
