England cricket legend Graeme Swann is set to swap his bat and ballroom shoes for boots and battle gear, as he joins the upcoming season of Channel 4’s Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.
According to a report from The Sun, the retired sportsman has officially signed up to take part in the notoriously gruelling reality series, which challenges celebrities to endure the harshest military training environments under the watchful eye of ex-Special Forces operatives.
Graeme Swann, now 45, is well known as one of England’s most successful spin bowlers, with a career that included multiple Ashes wins and a stint as the world’s number one Test bowler. Since retiring from international cricket in 2013, Swann has remained a fan favourite, making a memorable appearance on Strictly Come Dancing in 2018, where he danced his way to seventh place with professional partner Oti Mabuse.
A source close to production told us: “Sports stars always do well in the Celebrity SAS line-up, and bosses are chuffed they’ve got Graeme to sign on the dotted line.”
“Not only is he familiar to cricket fans, he’s also a reality TV favourite too after his stint on Strictly. Graeme is used to the pressure of international sporting events, and the acid tongues of the Strictly panel, but nothing will prepare him for his toughest TV show yet.”
Filming for the next series is already underway in a secret location, with rumours swirling about the rest of the celebrity line-up. Previous contestants have included the likes of Calum Best, Katie Price, and Gareth Gates, all of whom have been pushed to their absolute physical and mental limits.
This marks yet another reinvention for Swann, whose quick wit and charm have made him a popular figure both on and off the cricket field. But fans should expect to see a new side to him, as Celebrity SAS is famous for stripping away fame and ego, revealing the raw, real individuals underneath.
The new series is expected to air later this year on Channel 4.
