Gazza: Football Legend Leaves Hospital But “Still Very Poorly”

Football icon Paul Gascoigne has returned home after a worrying health scare left him in intensive care, but close friends have warned he remains “very poorly” as he continues to recover.

The 58-year-old former England star, affectionately known as Gazza, was rushed to hospital on Friday after collapsing at his home in Poole, Dorset. He was found semi-conscious in his bedroom by his personal assistant and close friend, Steve Foster, and taken straight to A&E.

Doctors initially admitted Gascoigne to an intensive care unit, before moving him to an acute ward as his condition stabilised. He spent the weekend under medical supervision, with fans around the country sending messages of support and well wishes to one of England’s most beloved sporting figures.

Thankfully, Gascoigne’s condition has improved enough for him to be discharged. His management confirmed to ITV that he is back home and “doing well” after being treated for a throat condition he has reportedly struggled with for some time.

Speaking to The Sun, Steve Foster, who discovered Gazza and has visited him every day since, said: “Paul is stable now but is still very poorly. But it shows how popular and loved he still is by fans everywhere. I can’t walk down the street with him without him being stopped, it’s crazy.”

It’s understood Gascoigne will continue his recovery at home, with friends and carers keeping a close eye on his condition in the coming days.

Fans flooded social media over the weekend with heartfelt messages wishing Gazza a speedy recovery, calling him “a national treasure” and “England’s greatest.”

One fan wrote on X : “We love you Gazza. Get well soon legend.” Another said: “My thoughts are with Paul Gascoigne tonight. Hope you’re feeling better soon. Thanks for the memories.”

Gazza’s brilliance on the pitch is matched only by the warmth with which he is remembered by fans. His emotional displays during the 1990 World Cup and dazzling career at clubs such as Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Rangers, and Lazio made him a household name.

However, his battles off the pitch with addiction and ill health have been well-documented. Friends and supporters continue to rally around him as he faces yet another challenge to his health.
