Football icon and Match of the Day host Gary Lineker is swapping the studio for the fields of Glastonbury Festival this summer.
As he prepares to step away from his long-standing role on the BBC’s flagship football show at the end of the season, Lineker is gearing up for an unexpected return to the spotlight, this time, on stage at the legendary festival
While Glastonbury is known for its world-class music lineup, including 2025 headliners The 1975, Olivia Rodrigo, and Neil Young, it also features a diverse range of talks and discussions. Lineker will take part in the ‘Silver Hayes’ programme, appearing on ‘The Information’ stage.
According to Glastonbury’s official site, The Information stage is “a space for discussion, debate, and understanding on today’s current affairs and cultural issues”, with the overarching theme: “Optimism is a political act.”
Lineker will be joined by other notable figures from the world of sport, including former Lionesses Jill Scott and Carly Telford, who will also be part of the talks. In addition, Dulwich Hamlet footballer Lucy Monkman will be bringing a DJ set to the area.
While fans may have expected to see Lineker talking football, his Glastonbury appearance suggests he’ll be diving into broader social and political discussions, reflecting his outspoken nature in recent years.
With a diverse lineup of speakers and performers, Silver Hayes at Glastonbury promises to be just as thought-provoking as it is entertaining.
