In a heartwarming and surprising revelation, comedian and presenter Frank Skinner has married his long-term partner Cath Mason after an incredible 24 years together.
The 68-year-old funnyman, whose real name is Christopher Collins, broke the news on his popular podcast, Frank Off The Radio, leaving his co-hosts Emily Dean and Pierre Novellie stunned. An emotional Emily burst into tears as Frank excitedly announced, "Can you brace yourselves? You'll never guess what I did on Monday: I got married. I got f***ing married!"
The couple, who share a son named Buzz, chose to keep their wedding a secret, inviting no one to the ceremony other than their young son, who even acted as a witness. But this was no ordinary wedding, the pair tied the knot on the stairs of Camden Town Hall, making the moment uniquely their own.
"We hadn’t told anyone except our child, I think you have to have them now, it’s a modern marriage!" Frank joked. He went on to share that their unconventional ceremony included a memorable soundtrack. "We walked up the stairs, me and Cath, and they said to Buzz, ‘Just plug your phone in there, and you can play the music.’ We entered to ‘Lie Dream Of A Casino Soul’ by The Fall."
The song choice may seem quirky to some, but for Frank and Cath, it was deeply meaningful. "That sounds gimmicky, like getting married by Elvis in Vegas, but in fact, The Fall meant so much to me and Cath when we were in our early days, so it was actually quite an emotional thing," Frank explained.
Cath Mason, ever the individualist, made it clear she was not changing her name or wearing a wedding ring. "She said, ‘If I wear a ring, I’ll feel trapped.’ I said, ‘You’ll be married, you’re supposed to feel trapped! That’s what it symbolises. It’s like a shackle!’" Frank joked, showing his signature comedic touch even in such a heartfelt moment.
