The highly anticipated Harry Potter TV series is finally coming into focus, with a trio of acclaimed British actors now officially confirmed to join the magical new cast.
Streaming on Max and set to launch in 2026, the series promises a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved books, with fresh faces stepping into the iconic roles. Fans of British television will be thrilled to hear that three of the UK’s most celebrated performers are taking on key parts in the new reimagining of the Wizarding World.
Katherine Parkinson, best known for her BAFTA-winning role as Jen in The IT Crowd, has been cast as Molly Weasley, the warm-hearted and formidable matriarch of the Weasley family. With her perfect balance of humour and heart, Parkinson is already being praised as inspired casting for the role originally played by Julie Walters.
Katherine Parkinson, 47, will be playing Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, Ron and Ginny's mum Molly Weasley
Joining her is Daniel Rigby, another BAFTA winner, who is set to portray Vernon Dursley, Harry’s blustery, magic-hating uncle. Rigby won acclaim (and a BAFTA) for his portrayal of comedian Eric Morecambe in the BBC’s Eric and Ernie, and fans are curious to see how he’ll bring a new edge to the Dursley dynamic.
Bel Powley will play Harry’s cold and complicated Aunt Petunia. Best known for her roles in The Morning Show and Everything I Know About Love, Powley brings both range and intensity to the part, originally played by Fiona Shaw in the film series.
Johnny Flynn, 42, will play Draco Malfoy's dad Lucius - who was played by Jason Isaacs in the movie
Meanwhile, rising star Lox Pratt, soon to appear in the BBC’s upcoming Lord of the Flies reboot, has been cast as Draco Malfoy, Harry’s school rival at Hogwarts. And in a stylish move, One Life and Emma actor Johnny Flynn will play his scheming father, Lucius Malfoy.
The series promises to take a darker, more detailed look at the books, with each season reportedly covering one novel in depth. Casting announcements for Harry, Ron, and Hermione are still under wraps, but fans are buzzing with excitement as the magical pieces slowly fall into place.
