Ed Sheeran has unveiled his ambitious plan for the next five albums, revealing that he intends to cap his discography at 10 releases, drawing inspiration from filmmaker Quentin Tarantino.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sheeran shared that his upcoming album will be titled 'Play'. The announcement follows weeks of speculation and teasers, though an official release date has yet to be confirmed.
Expanding on his vision, Sheeran explained that his future albums will follow a theme based on playback controls, with titles including 'Pause', 'Fast Forward', 'Rewind', and 'Stop'. This marks a departure from his previous collection of albums, which were named after mathematical symbols, such as 'Plus', 'Multiply', 'Divide', 'Subtract', and 'Equals'.
The singer-songwriter revealed that he had conceived the idea when he was just 18 years old and has been committed to executing it ever since. Once this series is complete, he plans to step away from making traditional albums. "I wanted to do 10. I’m kind of a bit obsessed with Quentin Tarantino, and I heard he was doing 10 films, and he’s got his side projects like Grindhouse," Sheeran explained. "I wanna do my 10 and then every now and then do a side project."
While Sheeran has not specified a timeline for the completion of his final albums, his revelation has sparked excitement among fans, eager to see how he will evolve his signature sound in this next chapter of his career.
