Ed Sheeran: “I Don’t Want My Kids Growing Up in the Richie Rich House”

Ed Sheeran has opened up about the importance of staying grounded, revealing that he’s made a conscious effort to keep his family life down-to-earth, despite his global fame and fortune. The singer-songwriter, who shares two young daughters with wife Cherry Seaborn, admitted he’s had to curb some extravagant ideas for the sake of his children’s upbringing.

Speaking candidly on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Ed shared that he doesn’t want his kids growing up in what he calls a “Richie Rich house”, a reference to the cartoon character famous for living in a mansion filled with every luxury imaginable, including his own McDonald’s.

“Cherry is the biggest grounding force,” Ed said of his wife, whom he married in 2019 after years of friendship and a long-standing connection rooted in their shared hometown of Suffolk. “Anytime there is something a little bit too Hollywood, she’ll be like, ‘bro, c’mon.’”

The couple, who are parents to four-year-old Lyra and two-year-old Jupiter, have made it a priority to raise their daughters away from the trappings of celebrity excess. Ed explained how Cherry’s no-nonsense attitude often puts things in perspective, including some of his more outlandish ideas for their home.

“I wanted to build a bowling alley in our back garden,” he admitted. “But Cherry said no. She knew we didn’t need that. She doesn’t want our kids growing up in the Richie Rich house where there’s literally McDonald’s in the back garden.”

Sheeran, one of the best-selling artists in the world, is known for his humble beginnings and deep ties to his hometown, and it’s clear he wants to maintain that sense of normality for his family. His relationship with Cherry, who he met in school before either of them found fame, has been a steadying force in his life. Their shared values, he says, are what help keep things real.

“I think growing up with someone from the same place you’re from, who knows your past and keeps you rooted, that’s everything,” he said.

While Ed Sheeran’s career continues to soar, his latest reflections reveal a clear focus on what truly matters to him: keeping his family grounded, his lifestyle balanced, and his children growing up with a sense of normality, far away from the flashiness that often comes with superstardom.
