Ed Sheeran has officially been crowned Apple Music’s most-streamed artist ever, beating some of the biggest names in music to claim the number one spot.
In celebration of its 10th anniversary, Apple Music has unveiled, for the first time, a definitive list of the 500 most-streamed songs ever on the platform. And it’s Sheeran’s 2017 global smash hit Shape Of You that takes the crown as the most-played track in Apple Music’s history.
The streaming giant has famously kept its internal data under wraps over the years, declining to share exact streaming numbers publicly. But to mark a decade of redefining how we listen to music, Apple Music finally revealed the songs that have defined the streaming era, and which artists dominate its charts.
US heavyweights The Weeknd and Drake took second and third place respectively, with Blinding Lights and God’s Plan, but neither could knock Sheeran from the top.
The full top ten reveals just how much hip-hop and R&B have dominated the past decade. Post Malone claimed both fourth and fifth place, with his collaborations Sunflower (with Swae Lee) and Rockstar.
Drake appeared again at number six with One Dance, while Travis Scott’s Sicko Mode landed at number seven.
Sheeran proved his staying power by making another appearance at number eight with his romantic ballad Perfect. Rounding out the list were Chris Brown and Drake’s duet No Guidance at nine, and Billie Eilish’s Grammy-winning Bad Guy at number ten.
For Sheeran, this accolade is another milestone in an already glittering career that includes four Grammys, several Brit Awards, and multiple Guinness World Records. Fans across the globe continue to embrace his catchy melodies and heartfelt lyrics, proving that even in an era dominated by rap and trap beats, his signature style resonates with listeners of all ages.
