EMMYS 2025: NETFLIX’S ADOLESCENCE SCORES 13 NOMINATIONS

The 2025 Emmy Awards nominations are in, and Netflix’s hard-hitting drama Adolescence has stormed the field with an impressive 13 nominations, cementing its place as one of the year’s most talked-about TV series.

The limited series, which captivated audiences when it debuted earlier this year, follows 15-year-old Jamie Miller, played by breakout star Owen Cooper, as he is arrested for the brutal murder of a girl at his school. The dark, gritty portrayal of teenage life and the justice system was praised for its unflinching realism and powerhouse performances.

At the centre of the acclaim is veteran actor Stephen Graham, who plays a detective trying to uncover the truth behind the shocking case. Graham, 51, is nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, adding another feather to his already highly decorated cap.

The series also earned a spot in the coveted Outstanding Limited Series category, placing it among the year’s elite productions.

British talent shines throughout the nominations, with Erin Doherty, Christine Tremarco, and Ashley Walters also recognised for their roles in the series. Doherty and Tremarco were nominated in the supporting actress category, while Walters picked up a supporting actor nod.

Elsewhere, the UK is strongly represented in other major categories. Sir Gary Oldman was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role as the unorthodox spymaster in Slow Horses, another critical and fan favourite.

International talent also features prominently, with American actress Rashida Jones earning a nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, and Ireland’s Sharon Horgan up for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her acclaimed turn in Bad Sisters.

In total, this year’s Emmys are dominated by two big US productions: Severance, which leads the pack with 27 nominations, and comedy The Studio, which picked up 23.

Other notable series in contention include Black Mirror, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, and The White Lotus, ensuring this year’s ceremony will be a showcase of prestige drama and biting satire.

The Emmys take place this September, with expectations high for Adolescence to bring home several trophies thanks to its compelling storylines and superb ensemble cast.

For Stephen Graham, who has built a reputation as one of Britain’s finest actors with roles in Line of Duty, The Virtues, and Boiling Point, the nomination is yet another recognition of his remarkable talent, and of the growing global influence of British drama on the streaming stage.
