Sir Elton John has always been known for his flamboyance, wit, and generosity, but this time, he’s gone above and beyond in keeping his word. The Rocket Man himself has officially handed over the keys to his house to rising star Lola Young after losing a bet about her single ‘D£aler’.
The light-hearted wager dates back to July, when Elton invited Lola onto an episode of his Apple Music 1 show, Rocket Hour. During their conversation, the iconic singer couldn’t contain his excitement over her music, singling out ‘D£aler’ as a sure-fire chart-topper.
“I bet my house on it”
In the now-famous exchange, Elton raved:
“I have to say, after listening to the album, there’s a track on your album which would be the next single, I’m going to tell everyone it’s called ‘D£aler’. And if that isn’t Number One, I bet my house that that’s a Number One single.
I bet my house. It is amazing. It’s unbelievable. It’s the biggest smash I’ve heard in years.”
At the time, Lola laughed off the declaration, but Elton was adamant. Fast forward to today, and while ‘D£aler’ made waves with critics and fans, it ultimately fell short of the coveted Number One spot in the UK charts.
Elton keeps his promise
True to his word, Elton John upheld the bet in the most Elton way possible, by recording a playful video in which he presented Lola Young with the keys to his house. While it’s clear the gesture is more symbolic than literal, fans have been quick to praise the star for his sense of humour and for keeping his word.
In the clip, Elton jokes about “upholding his end of the deal,” while Lola looks both stunned and amused at the surreal gift. The moment has already gone viral, sparking thousands of comments across social media.
