Pop powerhouse Dua Lipa has officially been crowned the UK’s most played artist of 2024, beating global titans Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran to the top spot in a surprise chart shake-up that proves she’s still the queen of the airwaves.
The 29-year-old singer-songwriter dominated UK radio, TV, and public spaces throughout the year, according to new figures released by music licensing company Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL). It’s a major win for the Houdini hitmaker, and marks the second time she’s claimed the prestigious title, having previously topped the list in 2020.
“I’m so grateful for all the love and support this year,” Dua said. “It’s a real honour to be named the most played artist in the UK for the second time. Thank you to everyone who’s been listening, dancing and singing along, it means the world!”
Her chart-topping track Houdini, which lit up playlists all year long, played a key role in helping her reclaim the crown.
Coming in second place was global phenomenon Taylor Swift, whose record-breaking Eras Tour and re-released albums kept her front and centre in the pop landscape. Despite her colossal success and media dominance, she was narrowly edged out by Dua in terms of airplay.
Former three-time chart-topper Ed Sheeran dropped to third place, having held the top spot since 2021. While still a constant presence on radio and streaming platforms, the Shape of You singer faced stiff competition from a wave of rising and returning acts.
David Guetta ranked fourth, proving his dancefloor dominance is far from over, followed closely by Coldplay, Calvin Harris, and Ariana Grande. The rest of the top ten showcases Britain’s continuing stronghold on global pop, with Elton John, Becky Hill, and Harry Styles completing the list.

With British talent occupying seven out of the top ten positions, 2024 has been a standout year for UK artists, and Dua Lipa’s reign at the top proves she’s not just riding the wave, she’s leading it.
