Love has truly blossomed both on and off screen for Downton Abbey favourites Laura Carmichael and Michael C. Fox.
The pair, who played Lady Edith Crawley and Andrew Parker in the hit ITV period drama, have confirmed they secretly tied the knot, years after meeting on set.
Fans of the series will remember that Laura joined the cast in 2010 as Lady Edith, the overlooked middle Crawley sister, while Michael arrived in 2014 during the show’s fifth season as Andrew, a footman at Downton. The two met while filming and quickly developed a friendship that turned into a romance.

In a heartwarming revelation, the couple, who welcomed their first child in 2021, shared that they are now officially husband and wife. The news was confirmed during NBC’s Downton Abbey Celebrates The Grand Finale special, where Michael, 36, reflected on how much the show had shaped his life.
“I owe a lot to this show,” he said. “I think so much of my life has been shaped around it.”
Co-star Lesley Nicol, who played the beloved cook Mrs Patmore, teased the pair, asking: “What if someone said you’re actually going to find your wife and have a child? Life-changing stuff.”
Michael couldn’t hide his happiness, smiling as he responded: “I know. It’s incredible.”
Laura, 37, has previously spoken about how special it was to meet Michael through the beloved series. The couple have been famously private about their relationship, with their wedding kept firmly under wraps until now.
The news has delighted Downton Abbey fans worldwide, many of whom have followed Laura’s career from the very beginning of the period drama’s run. Lady Edith’s turbulent love life was one of the show’s most compelling storylines, and viewers are thrilled that Carmichael has found her happily ever after in real life.

The pair’s romance is one of several that have blossomed behind the scenes of Downton Abbey, which remains one of the UK’s most successful dramas. Since the show ended in 2015, Laura has appeared in several TV and film projects, including The Secrets She Keeps, while Michael has continued acting both on stage and screen.
Their wedding is yet another happy chapter in the show’s enduring legacy, proof that Downton Abbey was as life-changing for its cast as it was beloved by audiences.
