Hollywood star Demi Moore has gone viral for rescuing three orphaned ducklings, but while most fans are charmed, not everyone thinks the actress is doing the right thing.
The Ghost and G.I. Jane actress shared the heartwarming news on social media last week, revealing she has taken in three baby mallards after finding them abandoned. She posted a sweet video introducing the fuzzy trio to her followers, alongside her tiny chihuahua, Pilaf, who appears to have instantly bonded with the new additions.
“Duck, duck… Pilaf!” Demi captioned the post. “We rescued three orphaned baby mallard ducklings! With the help and guidance of my local vet we are working to nurture them until they are old enough to be reintroduced to their natural habitat. It has been a messy joy, but Pilaf is loving her new friends.”
Fans flooded the comments with heart emojis and messages of support, praising Moore for her compassion. “You’re an angel! So happy they found you,” one follower wrote. Another added, “Pilaf is a better duck mom than most people I know!”
But not everyone was on board. A handful of commenters accused Moore of overstepping by caring for wild animals, arguing that the ducklings should have been taken to a licensed wildlife rehab centre instead.
“This is not OK. Wild mallards should be rehabbed by a wildlife expert,” one user wrote. “Her vet should have known that. Sorry… cute but imprinted.”
Imprinting refers to the process where baby birds’ bond with the first creature they see, which in this case could mean Moore or her dog, potentially making the ducks unable to live independently in the wild.
Despite the criticism, Moore remains committed to doing the right thing. A source close to the actress says she’s working closely with professionals to ensure the ducklings have the best chance at survival and eventual release.
“Demi has a deep love of animals and nature,” the insider shared. “She acted out of kindness and is taking every precaution to do what’s right for the ducklings.”
It’s not the first time Moore has made headlines for her devotion to animals. Pilaf, her miniature chihuahua, has been by her side through red carpets, holidays, and even fashion week events.
Whether you applaud her or question her methods, one thing’s for sure, Demi Moore has a lot of love to give… and now, three ducklings to quack it to.
