World darts champion Luke Littler might have conquered the oche, but there’s one challenge that continues to defeat him, the UK driving theory test.
The 18-year-old, who became the youngest player ever to win the PDC World Darts Championship in January after a thrilling 7-3 victory over Michael van Gerwen, has revealed that he’s now failed his driving theory test six times, and it’s starting to drive him up the wall.
Speaking in a recent interview, Littler said the repeated failures have been incredibly frustrating:
“I just want to be able to drive myself around to tournaments and go and see my mates when I want, but I just can’t get this theory test done. It’s really annoying me now.”
Having turned 18 earlier this year, Littler wasted no time in starting the process of learning to drive. But while he’s been smashing treble 20s on the darts stage, mastering road signs and hazard perception clips hasn’t been as easy.
“I keep just missing out by a couple of marks, which is the worst bit. It’s not like I don’t study for it, I do, but I need to put in even more work if I’m ever going to pass,” he admitted.

Littler’s struggle with the theory test has become a bit of a running joke among fans, with many taking to social media to offer encouragement, and a bit of good-natured teasing. One fan posted:
“Luke Littler can beat MVG under the lights of Ally Pally but can’t beat the hazard perception test, unreal!”
Another wrote:
“Fair play to Luke, at least he’s being honest about it. I failed mine twice, so I get it!”
Back in January, shortly after winning the £500,000 top prize at Alexandra Palace, Littler was asked what car he would buy with his winnings. His answer was modest compared to many young sports stars.
“I’d like the cheapest Mercedes-Benz A-Class going, something around £30,000,” he said at the time.
For now, that dream car will have to wait until he finally gets the green light from the DVSA. Littler’s determination, however, suggests it’s only a matter of time before he hits the road.
With another packed darts calendar ahead of him and plenty of travel required for tournaments, getting that driving licence could be one of his biggest wins yet.
