James Bond fans have once again shown their passion for all things 007, this time by splashing out more than £2,000 on a pair of Daniel Craig’s swimming trunks from Skyfall.
The trunks, which Craig wore during a memorable pool scene in the 2012 Bond blockbuster, were sold this week by Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles for $2,880 (£2,157). The sale highlights the enduring appeal of Bond memorabilia, and of Craig’s iconic portrayal of the world’s most famous secret agent.
The auctioned pair of trunks were featured in a scene that appears to show Bond swimming in a sleek rooftop pool in Shanghai, though the sequence was in fact filmed much closer to home, at the Four Seasons Hotel in London’s Canary Wharf.
It’s worth noting that these are not the same blue La Perla swim shorts that Craig famously wore in Casino Royale, the ones that launched a thousand headlines after his unforgettable sea exit scene. Instead, these Skyfall trunks are a subtler light blue, designed for a more understated Bond moment.
Still, that didn’t stop fans from diving in with bids. The auction began modestly at $200 (£150) before quickly rising to its final sale price, though, interestingly, that was still below the pre-sale estimate by more than $2,000 (£1,500).
For collectors, owning a piece of Bond’s wardrobe is a chance to connect with one of cinema’s most enduring legacies. Over the years, items linked to the spy franchise have fetched staggering sums. In 2022, the Aston Martin DB5 stunt car used in No Time To Die sold for a jaw-dropping £2.9 million, while Craig’s Casino Royale tuxedo went for tens of thousands.
Daniel Craig, who played Bond across five films from Casino Royale (2006) to No Time To Die (2021), remains one of the franchise’s most beloved actors. His version of 007 brought grit, vulnerability, and style to the role, a combination that continues to captivate fans and collectors alike.
The trunks’ sale also reflects the ongoing fascination with film props, which have become increasingly popular among memorabilia investors. Julien’s Auctions, known for selling iconic entertainment items, has previously auctioned off everything from Marilyn Monroe’s dresses to Freddie Mercury’s handwritten lyrics, with Bond items consistently among their top sellers.

A spokesperson for Julien’s said:
“Bond memorabilia remains one of the most in-demand categories in entertainment auctions. Whether it’s a tuxedo, a gadget, or even a small wardrobe item like these trunks, collectors know they’re buying a piece of film history.”
As for the identity of the winning bidder? That remains under wraps, fitting, perhaps, for a purchase worthy of 007 himself.
And while the Skyfall trunks didn’t quite reach the dizzying heights of Bond’s Casino Royale swimwear, they still fetched a price that proves that when it comes to James Bond, style truly never dies.
