Coronation Street: Three Iconic Stars Sign Up for UK Speaking Tour

Fans of Coronation Street are in for a treat this autumn as three of the soap’s most beloved stars have signed up for a special speaking tour celebrating the world’s longest-running soap.

ITV has announced details of An Audience with Coronation Street, a live tour featuring familiar faces from the famous cobbles, set to travel around the UK this September. The unique event will see cast members share memories, behind-the-scenes secrets, and answer questions from devoted viewers.

The first two names on the bill are soap royalty: Bill Roache, who has played Ken Barlow since the very first episode in 1960, and Barbara Knox, who has portrayed Rita Tanner since 1964. Both have signed up to appear at two shows each on the tour.

Bill will grace the stage in his home city of Salford for one of the two shows there, as well as appearing at the Sunderland Empire Theatre. Meanwhile, Barbara will take part in the second Salford date and also appear at the London show, giving southern fans a rare chance to see her live.

Perhaps the most surprising addition to the line-up is Amanda Barrie, who famously played Alma Halliwell from 1981 until her character’s dramatic on-screen death in 2001. Amanda is confirmed to appear at the Sheffield and Glasgow shows, where she’ll reflect on her two decades on the street.

For fans who have watched the soap faithfully over the decades, the opportunity to hear stories directly from these stars is proving irresistible. Already, demand for tickets has been high, particularly for the Salford shows, where Corrie has been filmed for over 60 years.

Bill Roache, now 92, remains the world’s longest-serving television actor in a continuous role, and continues to appear regularly on screen as Ken Barlow. Barbara Knox, 90, is also still a part of the cast, making her appearances all the more special for audiences who grew up watching her sparring with the likes of Bet Lynch and Mavis Riley.

Amanda Barrie has since made appearances on other shows, including Celebrity Big Brother, but Alma remains one of her most fondly remembered roles, particularly her heartbreaking exit storyline.

Speaking about the tour, an ITV spokesperson said:

“We’re thrilled to bring An Audience with Coronation Street to fans across the UK. It’s a chance to celebrate the incredible history of the show and the remarkable careers of these three stars who helped make the street what it is today.”

The tour kicks off in September, with dates and tickets available via the show’s official website.
