CHANNEL 4 SEEKS PEOPLE WHO CAN VOMIT ON DEMAND FOR NEW DOCUMENTARY

Channel 4 has never shied away from creating programmes that push boundaries, and their latest casting call is no exception. The broadcaster has put out an advert seeking men and women who are able to vomit on demand, offering £50 per hour for the unusual skill.

The request is linked to a new documentary series which focuses on unconventional methods for curing phobias. The show is produced under the banner of the “Professional Phobia Clinic” and aims to treat people by exposing them directly to the things they fear most.

Vomiting on cue – for science

The specific role in question asks for “actors who can vomit on command” to participate in recreating and triggering patient experiences on camera. While the premise may sound bizarre, it fits the wider concept of the documentary: immersion therapy, the process of repeatedly confronting a fear in a controlled environment until it loses its power.

According to the casting call, those selected will be filmed vomiting as part of a therapy process designed to help people overcome emetophobia, the fear of vomit, vomiting, or people being sick.

The producers stress that while the act may sound shocking, it is an important step for patients trying to face and manage their phobias.

Not Channel 4’s first unusual phobia focus

The documentary is part of an ongoing series which has previously explored fears of spiders, clowns, fish, rats, and mice. Past episodes have documented the life-changing journeys of people living with extreme phobias, following them as they undergo therapy and exposure exercises in an effort to reclaim control of their lives.

By including vomiting in this upcoming series, the show is tackling one of the most common yet rarely discussed fears, emetophobia. Experts say it affects thousands of people in the UK, and in severe cases it can limit social lives, diet, and even career opportunities.

A job that pays to make people uncomfortable

While some may laugh at the idea of being paid to vomit on command, others see it as an unusual acting gig, and one that pays well at £50 per hour. The request has already sparked mixed reactions online, with some calling it “the worst job in TV” and others dubbing it “the easiest payday ever” for anyone with the right gag reflex.

The documentary is currently in pre-production, with casting underway. Channel 4 has not yet confirmed when the new phobia series will air, but it’s expected to land on screens soon.

For now, one thing is clear: Channel 4 has once again found a way to get people talking.
