Calvin Harris may have spent five years building his dream home, but he didn’t count on a local bus route giving passengers a front-row seat to his luxury lifestyle.
The superstar DJ, 40, has just completed a £3.6million mansion in the Gloucestershire countryside, after flattening an existing property and rebuilding from scratch, but now faces a very unexpected problem: bus passengers can see right into his house.
To deal with the unexpected intrusion, Calvin has installed one-way reflective glass throughout the property, allowing him to see out without anyone seeing in. The high-tech privacy measure was spotted for the first time this week, as the final scaffolding was removed from the vast newbuild estate.
Calvin Harris installs special privacy glass at his Cotswolds mansion after discovering it sits just feet away from a busy village bus route.
Locals have pointed out that buses from Pulhams Travel run regularly on an eight-stop circular route that connects the sleepy village to a nearby market town, and the route passes directly in front of Calvin’s house, giving an unrestricted view inside.
Local Pulhams Travel buses pass by the DJ’s countryside retreat as part of an eight-stop loop linking the village with a nearby Gloucestershire market town.
“He probably wasn’t expecting a double-decker to be part of the view,” one local joked.
Calvin, who is set to move into the property later this summer with his pregnant wife Vick Hope, has reportedly poured more than £15million into the area, including buying up two neighbouring homes and eyeing a third. The idea is to secure maximum privacy, but the unexpected bus route has thrown a spanner in the works.
While the countryside location might offer rolling fields and peaceful surroundings, the local bus line has proved a privacy headache for one of the world’s most successful DJs.
“It’s like living in a goldfish bowl, every bus that passes gives people a perfect view straight through,” said another resident familiar with the project.
Despite the hiccup, sources close to the couple say they’re excited to settle into their new home, especially with baby number one on the way.
The custom-built property includes a studio, gym, cinema room, and sprawling gardens, and thanks to the latest glass tech, it now includes peace of mind, too.
