Busted fans have been left worried after it emerged that frontman Charlie Simpson has cancelled his upcoming DJ gigs. The news comes shortly after his bandmate James Bourne was forced to withdraw from the much-anticipated Busted vs McFly tour due to illness.
The joint arena tour was set to kick off in Birmingham this week, but James’s sudden health battle threw the schedule into disarray. His bandmates described him as “really sick,” prompting an outpouring of concern from supporters across the country.
Now, Charlie has also taken the difficult step of cancelling his solo appearances, including a planned DJ set at Manchester’s Gorilla nightclub.
A fan who had purchased tickets shared the cancellation email, which read:
“Unfortunately, due to the ongoing health issues of James and the strain that it is putting on Charlie and the rest of the band, he has had to make the difficult decision to cancel all upcoming DJ sets. All tickets will be refunded, please expect a refund in 3-5 working days. We are so sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
Fans rally with support
The cancellations have sparked fresh speculation about the severity of James’s condition and the impact it has had on his bandmates. Many have taken to social media to voice their concern.
One fan wrote: “This feels really concerning. Hoping hard that James gets good health as soon as possible.” Another added: “Family and health come first. We’ll all be here when the lads are ready to get back on stage.”
Busted, who shot to fame in the early 2000s with hits like Year 3000 and Crashed the Wedding, have continued to enjoy a loyal fanbase well into their 40s. Their latest reunion tour alongside McFly had been billed as a nostalgic celebration of both bands’ biggest hits, a reminder of just how much affection audiences still have for them.
The weight of responsibility
Charlie, who has juggled his career with Busted alongside other projects including solo work and winning The Masked Singer UK as “Rhino,” is said to be under considerable pressure. Balancing his commitments while supporting his bandmate during a health crisis appears to have taken its toll.
Insiders suggest that Charlie’s decision to cancel his DJ commitments was a proactive move to focus on the band and ensure James has the time and support he needs to recover.
What happens next for Busted and McFly?
For now, it remains unclear how long James will be sidelined, or what the future of the tour looks like. Both bands have remained tight-lipped, no doubt keen to prioritise James’s recovery over any show business commitments.
ITV and music promoters are expected to release updates in the coming days, but fans are already bracing for delays, cancellations, or possible rescheduling of shows.
What is clear, however, is that the health of Busted’s members takes precedence over performances. And judging by the reaction online, fans are more than willing to wait.
As one long-time supporter commented: “We’ve loved these lads for over 20 years, another few months won’t hurt. Their wellbeing is more important than any gig.”
For now, supporters are keeping James and Charlie in their thoughts, hoping for positive updates and a return to the stage when the time is right.
