Britain’s Got Talent has been hit with another ‘fix’ controversy just weeks before the highly anticipated final, with singer Mickey Callisto openly criticizing the show’s producers over a creative disagreement.
Mickey, who initially impressed judges with a powerful rendition of a Queen classic during his audition, took to the stage again for the live semi-finals, once again performing a Queen song. But according to the singer, this wasn’t his choice.
In a candid Instagram video shared with his followers after the semi-final, Mickey revealed that he had repeatedly asked producers for permission to perform one of his own original songs, a request that was denied.
“I wanted to sing my own song in the semi-final,” Mickey explained. “I said to the producers for weeks that I wanted to sing it. Because, if you’ve been at my own show before with Mickey Callisto, you’ll see that I get the exact same response with the same level of performance.”
However, instead of showcasing his original music, Mickey found himself singing another Queen track, a decision he feels may have impacted his chances of advancing to the finals.
Mickey’s social media video has sparked a wave of support from fans, many of whom believe he should have been given the opportunity to perform his own material. Some have even accused the show of stifling artists’ creativity by imposing strict song choices.
Despite his frustration, Mickey hinted that he might not be entirely done with the competition just yet. “If there is a wildcard again this year for the final and I get it, then I’ll push for it,” he said. "But if it is to be another Queen song, like I said, there’s only one song for the final."
Britain’s Got Talent producers have not yet responded to the singer’s comments. As the final approaches, the controversy has once again raised questions about how much creative control contestants truly have on the show.
Fans will be eagerly watching to see if Mickey gets another chance to take the stage, and if he will finally be able to perform his own music.
