BRITAIN’S GOT TALENT AUDITIONS POSTPONED AFTER SIMON COWELL FALLS ILL

Britain’s Got Talent has hit a surprising snag in its 2025 return after the very first round of live auditions was dramatically postponed. The reason? Long-standing head judge Simon Cowell fell ill just hours before cameras were due to roll.

Producers had planned to kick off the new series yesterday at Birmingham’s iconic Hippodrome Theatre, with hopeful contestants ready to showcase their talents. However, in a last-minute decision, the show was forced to call off the day’s auditions, citing Simon’s health.

An insider revealed to The Sun: “Simon felt unwell in the last 24 hours. Judges often miss the odd audition because they don’t feel great, Simon, for example, has long suffered with migraines. But it was decided, as this was the first audition of the series, it was best to postpone, so we could launch with everyone on the panel. He’s on the mend now, and hoping to be fighting fit for tomorrow.”

This isn’t the first time Simon’s health has caused concern. The TV mogul, now 65, has previously spoken about suffering with chronic migraines and maintaining a demanding work schedule that often takes its toll. Fans will remember that in 2020, Cowell had a serious back injury after a fall from an electric bike, which saw him temporarily step away from TV.

The importance of Simon’s presence

Britain’s Got Talent has built its legacy on its unique panel chemistry, with Simon at the helm since its launch in 2007. Viewers often see him as the driving force behind the show, known for his blunt critiques, sharp humour, and ability to spot star potential.

While auditions can technically go ahead without a judge, the decision to halt proceedings reflects Simon’s importance. “The first audition is symbolic,” another source explained. “It sets the tone for the entire season, and producers felt it would be wrong to launch without the full line-up present.”

What happens next?

The postponement means that auditions are expected to resume today, assuming Simon has made a full recovery. ITV has yet to confirm whether yesterday’s missed session will be rescheduled, or if acts will be moved to future audition slots.

Fans on social media have already shared messages of support, with many sending Simon their best wishes. One wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “BGT isn’t the same without Simon. Hope he feels better soon!” Another added: “Health comes first – looking forward to seeing the full panel when he’s back.”

With Ant and Dec returning as hosts, alongside judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and Bruno Tonioli, this year’s Britain’s Got Talent promises the usual mix of hilarious, heart-warming, and jaw-dropping acts. And while Simon’s illness may have delayed the big kick-off, it seems audiences won’t have long to wait before the action begins.

For now, fans will be reassured to hear Simon is already “on the mend” and expected back on stage very soon.
