Global music icons Beyoncé and Jay-Z are said to be preparing for a big move, not to another US mansion or Caribbean hideaway, but to the heart of the Cotswolds. Reports suggest the couple are in the final stages of purchasing 58 acres of land on the outskirts of Wigginton, after recently being granted planning permission to build what is described as a “spectacular rural estate.”
If the deal goes through, the pair will become neighbours with some of Britain’s most famous names, as the nearby Great Tew Estate has long been a hotspot for celebrity homes. Stars such as David and Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, and Soho House co-founder Nick Jones already call the area home.
While many locals are buzzing with excitement at the prospect of two of the world’s biggest stars settling nearby, not everyone seems overly impressed. Seventy-seven-year-old Gerry Barrago gave reporters a no-nonsense reaction, saying: “I don’t give a flying toss.” He explained that his wife frequently sees Beyoncé and Jay-Z dropping into Burford Garden Centre in one of their classic Range Rovers. “When someone points them out to my wife, her first reaction is to ask who they are,” he added. “Some of these so-called celebrities I’ve never actually heard of.”
The Carter family’s plans for a countryside base in Oxfordshire have sparked plenty of discussion.
