The 25th annual BET Awards took centre stage Monday night at the iconic Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, California, marking a major milestone for Black entertainment. The night was one to remember, with electrifying performances, emotional tributes, and a fierce roster of nominees, as the industry’s brightest stars were celebrated for their talent, artistry, and cultural impact.
Leading the pack was Kendrick Lamar, who topped the nominations list with ten nods and walked away with several of the evening’s biggest honours. His acclaimed album ‘GNX’ earned the coveted Album of the Year award, while his collaboration with SZA, ‘Luther,’ scooped Best Collaboration. Kendrick also claimed Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Video of the Year for ‘Not Like Us,’ and Video Director of the Year alongside Dave Free.
SZA continued her reign in the R&B world, winning Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, while Chris Brown secured Best Male R&B/Pop Artist and the Viewer’s Choice Award for his hit ‘Residuals’. Rising star Doechii made a powerful impact, taking home Best Female Hip Hop Artist, cementing her status as one to watch.
The dynamic duo of Future & Metro Boomin picked up Best Group, while Best New Artist was awarded to Leon Thomas, who also delivered a standout performance during the night.
International talent was in the spotlight too, with Nigeria’s Ayra Starr winning Best International Act. Summer Walker took home the BET Her award for her empowering track ‘Heart of a Woman.’
One of the most emotional moments of the evening came as the late Quincy Jones was honoured with a moving tribute featuring performances from Miles Caton, Luke James, and Lucky Daye.
The night also paid tribute to four iconic figures in music and culture, presenting Ultimate Icon Awards to Jamie Foxx, Kirk Franklin, Snoop Dogg, and Mariah Carey. Each received a standing ovation, with touching montages and musical tributes celebrating their contributions to the world of entertainment.
With show-stopping performances from Lil Wayne, GloRilla, Teyana Taylor, Playboi Carti and others, the BET Awards 2025 was a spectacular celebration of Black excellence and creativity.
