A League of Their Own Axed After 15 Years, Final Series Airs This Summer

After 15 years on air, Sky's hit panel show A League of Their Own is coming to an end, with one final series set to air this summer.

The long-running sports comedy programme, known for its quick-witted banter and celebrity guests, will wrap up with a special 20th season in August. The farewell run will mark the end of an era for one of Sky’s most beloved entertainment shows, which has blended sport and comedy since its debut in 2010.

Currently hosted by Romesh Ranganathan, who took over from original presenter James Corden in 2021, the show has featured a rotating roster of top-tier talent across its run. Jamie Redknapp, who has been a team captain since day one, remains a central figure, joined in recent seasons by Lionesses star Jill Scott and regular panellist Micah Richards.

Sky confirmed the news this week, noting that the decision to end the show was made after careful discussion, and that the upcoming final series will be a celebration of its 15-year legacy. According to the Daily Mail, fans can expect a mix of familiar faces, highlights from classic episodes, and fresh new content in the farewell series, which will air on Sky Max and streaming platform NOW.

The show originally paired Redknapp with cricket legend Freddie Flintoff as rival captains, with comedian Jack Whitehall providing comic relief as a regular guest. Over the years, it became a staple of British entertainment television, featuring appearances from Kevin Bishop, Mo Gilligan, and Georgie Thompson, among others.

In a landscape where panel shows come and go, A League of Their Own managed to stand out, thanks to its unique blend of sports knowledge, ridiculous physical challenges, and cheeky camaraderie. The chemistry between the team captains and guests gave the show a charm that kept fans tuning in for more than a decade.

With Sky now focusing on evolving its comedy and sports entertainment offerings, the final chapter of A League of Their Own is expected to go out with a bang. Whether it's paintball challenges, fitness face-offs, or awkward quiz moments, the farewell season promises to deliver the same chaotic fun that made it a cult favourite.

The 20th and final series of A League of Their Own will air later this year on Sky Max and NOW, giving fans one last chance to enjoy the laughs before the whistle blows for good.
