AN intrepid group of climbers braved the Teide Challenge climb at the weekend to raise money for the Accion Del Sol dog refuge at Granadilla.
The challenge was to see the sunrise from Teide and the 18-strong party achieved their goal, raising in excess of 1,000 euros. That was the target set by organiser Karen Clack, chief fund-raiser for Aktionier, the dog sanctuary based at Accion Del Sol. The funds will be spent on building a new fenced area and kennels for the older dogs, who are more difficult to re-home, mainly because of their age and size. This will give more space in the main kennels for Marion, who runs the centre, to take more animals into the refuge. The walk started at the base of Teide at midnight, and the group reached the refuge at 4.30. After a rest and hot drinks, they climbed for another hour to reach the summit in time to view the magnificent sunrise. A delighted Karen Clack said: “The comments and feedback I received were fantastic and amazing. Well done to you all, and a really big thank-you from me and all at Accion Del Sol.” The event was sponsored by: Danni Byrne (Tenerife Fitness), Steve Kirkwood, Jodie Walker, Paul Montague (Blevins Franks), Sarah Macdonald (Sunway Tenerife), Selina Ann Dorill-bradley (Tenerife Insurance Services), Peter (Pride Buildings), Daisy and Shelley Stewart (Pit Team Sur), Sascha Krüschet (Tenerife Mortgage Solutions), Andrea Scheithe (Milou Peluqueria Canino), Alan Gonzalez (Accion Del Sol), Beatriz Penedo (Loteria Penedo De La Laguna),Tracey and Steve Moore, Hanah Kempton, Tony Vokes, Jeanette Washington and Richard. |
