The City of Santa Cruz de Tenerife ranks fourth in the ranking of advertising spending among major capitals around the country. That is, during the first nine months of last year, the Consistory of the capital invested a total of EUR 822 537 which is 03.06 euros per inhabitant.
This follows from the study just published by the media and advertising consulting public media advertising investment in the public sector. According to the report, the capital of Tenerife is second only to Barcelona, with 4.2 million euros, Madrid, with 4.1, and Valencia, with 1.5 million invested in municipal promotion, 640,000 more than the Las Palmas Gran Canaria.
The fifth place with 793 919 euros, occupied by the city of Malaga, followed by Valladolid, with 767 015, 668 322 Cadiz, Zaragoza, Cordoba and Leganés, with costs ranging between 500,000 and 300,000 euros. Ten additional areas descend to reach the spending of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which occupies the last post-twentieth-of this classification, with 182 362 euros, which translates into just 0.47 euros per capita in the same period January to September 2009.
The study also shows the effects of how the economic situation has affected the government over the past two years. The general trend shows that all consistories reduced ad spending last year over the same period in 2008.
Local authorities, such as Sevilla, Gijon and Madrid showed major cuts. These reductions in advertising spending consistories ranging between 40 and 50%. For their part, local governments of San Sebastian and Granada were the ones who least reduced their spending in this area, with only 0.8% each.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is among the least reduced municipality spending on promotion. Specifically, the City Council headed by the nationalist Miguel Zerolo slashed in 2009 only 10% of the resources allocated for this purpose compared to 2008, which contrasts with the statement of the municipality of social emergency in May 2009.
Finally, the study published by the media consultants also analyses advertising spending of the 17 Spanish autonomous communities, ranking the Canaries in eleventh place, with 2.1 million of advertising investment. The regions topping the list are Madrid with 14.5 million, 14.1 Andalusia, Catalonia and Valencia reached 11.4 to 6.3 million.
