Tenerife Today

Tenerife Today is the interactive news page for Oasis Fm, with all local news and cultural information supplied by the Canarian Weekly newspaper, SPET, and Tenerife Cabildo.

Summer is on the up - 23.07.2010
According to press releases reservations to Tenerife from the UK have increased by 300 percent this summer as travel page 'lowcostholidays.com'.

According to a statement issued by the Tenerife Cabildo, this so strengthens the island as a holiday destination throughout the year, leaving behind the old characteristics of Tenerife being a destination popular with the British mainly as a winter destination.

The Director of Island Tourism and Head of Turismo de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, stressed the importance of this fact, "this demonstrates that our offer is very competitive holiday location for the Canary Islands in general, and Tenerife in particular, holds extremely well against competing destinations."

According to the data from 'lowcostholidays.com', the increase in reservations on the island clearly outweighs places like Egypt, with a 75 percent increase, or Turkey, with a 45 percent increase.

Among the reasons for the rise of 300 per cent for Tenerife, is access to the travel portal of new low-cost airlines and the increase in places available for those already flying to the island,

"We are now seeing the fruits of work since we have been developing Tenerife Tourism with airlines to increase passenger numbers that we receive, "said Bermudez.

Besides this, special offers launched by the hotels have also helped position the island as a leading destination for the summer between for the British, again according to the booking page.

Travellers from the United Kingdom amounted to 1.43 million, of nearly five million who came to the island last year, just behind the Spanish, who reached the figure of 1,450,000.
