KOOL and the Gang sang Ladies Night many years ago, and a cool 25 ladies entered the Oasis Fm Darts League singles knockout competition last Friday. It was a record number for the girls-only competition, proving that the league continues to go from strength to strength. After some fierce battles at Amigos, it came down to Lynn (the boss) of Bar 180 B and Jusi Sue, of Naughty Nautas. And with a 3-0 scoreline it was Jusi Sue who earned a place in finals night. At Nauta Bar, 12 more ladies enjoyed an exciting evening with sharp objects in their hands. It fell down to Betty, of Rood B, and Shar (the cleaner) of the Playgirls to try to make it on to the big stage. It was not to be for Shar as she was up against an in-form Betty who came through 3-0. Betty also hitting a 180 on the night.
In the general event, 56 players attended four venues vying to make a name for themselves, and at OurPlace in Silencio the spectators were not disappointed, especially in the final. Old rivals Big Al of Nauta A and Steve (Jagermaster) Jones of the Phoenix, served up a real treat. And with both players scoring heavily, it was anyone’s guess for a winner. At one leg each, Big Al hit a 180, but Steve came roaring back with a 140, Al responding the same score. Finally, after an exhausting tussle, the Nauta man booked his place in the last four.
At Cafe Rood, some fine food and hospitality was enjoyed by another set of spear-throwing warriors, and everyone involved stayed to enjoy a good display in the final, contested by Justin (Bar180) and London (Nauta A). Justin lost a leg in every match and had London scoring a 180 against him, but he got the upper hand in the decider by firing in his own maximum, and winning by three legs to one.
At Exiles Bar, some big names in the league squared up in search of their own bit of glory. And none more so than Bubbles, who hit a 180 and a 114 checkout en route to win a tantalising last match against Mike Telfer (Nauta A). After sharing four very close legs, it came down to a nail-biting decider, and what a leg it was! With the Phoenix man on a double, Mike looked down and out. But he came back with really good nerves and hit his double to end a thoroughly entertaining match.
Welcoming another set of hopefuls was The Target Bar and, as usual, they all enjoyed their evening there. Most were hoping for a favourable Draw, especially after they had seen the names of the players. And true to form, the two players whom most feared were fortunate to avoid each other and win through to do battle in the final. So it was Luc (Rood A) and Richie (Bar180) vying for a semi-final spot, and both put up a reallygood display of darts. Richie drew first blood, but was then pegged back by our man from Belgium. Indeed, Luc then started to find some of his best form and took the match 3-1. Singles competition, venue results
