FOOTBALL fans will be sowing gold stars on to their shirts all over Spain this week.
Young Ashley hit a bull finish in the trebles leg during a thumping 8-0 victory over Toscales Ensecan to keep his team top of the league. Exiles remain hot on their heels as they got the better of next-door-neighbours Strikers Bar. They had Chuckling Chimp to thank for their only point as he beat Shammy 2-0. Nauta Bar lost only two legs in a fine 7-1 win at Silver Surfers, although the home team put up a real fight and were certainly no pushover. Rood A entertained Bar 180 and although Luc hit his third 180 of the season, the reigning league champions came through with a 6-2 victory. Target A continued their good form and are really on a roll now. They travelled to Ourplace and came away with seven points. Shanny, of the home team, registered their solitary point and played with real spirit (the particular spirit you mix with Coke!). The X-Men are starting to turn things around, and with Alex hitting a 180, they brushed Target B aside 6-2. Elsewhere, Sundowners put struggling Heroes bar to the sword 5-3, and Woodys A and Tenerife Sons fought out a tough 4-4 draw.
Clash of the day in Division 2 was played out at Camping Nauta as the top two teams went head to head. The match could have gone either way but, eventually, Barracudarts Boys stamped their authority and won 6-2 to inflict a first defeat of the season on the Nutters. Third-place Gaffers kept up their promotion hopes with a 7-1 demolition of Phoenix Flames, Carole scoring the visitors’ only point. The fun-loving Ourplace Playgirls had Toni hitting a 112 finish, but to no avail as Knights B defied their lowly position and thrashed them 7-1. Amigos Bad Girls made the short trip over to Bar 180 and both sides had a really great night, the Golf del Sur side finally winning 5-3. Elsewhere, two close matches took place. Hunters and Rood B finished all-square on the night, while Tenerife Sun and The Tavern also ended up sharing the spoils. Ourplace Naturals kept up their promotion hopes by beating Naughty Nautas 5-3, and Woodys B came down from the mountain to inflict the same result on Marilyns. Yelas Bar, trying really hard to get themselves back into the top flight, had an interesting night in Los Abrigos and went home with a useful 6-2 win over La Caña Lancers. Geoff Huxtable
