Tenerife's snazzy new look - 16.07.2010
By Roscoe

THE start of the new football season is nearly upon us. Just a few days after the World Cup final and the official end of the 2009-10 season, the next campaign is ready to rock ‘n’ roll.

Next week, the Spanish football fixtures are released and this week, Tenerife made their first two signings and unveiled their smart new strips.

CD Tenerife have a new kit supplier. Luanvi have replaced Puma and the new shirts have been given a big thumbs-up by the supporters. They will be available next month, which makes a nice change from the near-Christmas release by Puma.

On Wednesday, Pablo Sicilia, Ricardo and “new” old boy Antonio Hidalgo modelled the shirts.

New boss Gonzalo Arconada made Hidalgo his first signing, and it will be interesting to see how Hidalgo does in his second stint. He joins from Albacete following spells at Malaga, Zaragoza and Osasuna since leaving the Heliodoro in 2005 after a five-year spell.

Signing No2 could turn out to be a real coup. Gregory Beranger has been snapped up on a free from Numancia after an excellent loan season at Las Palmas.

Trust me, the Gran Canarians are seething as the Frenchman had a brilliant campaign for the custard shirts.

There was more good news yesterday (Thursday) when Juanlu Hens signed a contract extension through to 2014, and there is still no proper bid for star men Marc Betran and Nino.

Meanwhile, Richi has returned to Real Murcia, and Angel has joined Elche. Former CDT chief Pepe Mal is the new boss of Real Betis after Jose Luis Oltra turned the job down.

Last season’s boss, Oltra, is widely expected to become the new head coach at Xerez, who were relegated along with Tenerife from La Liga.
