Victoria headlines Wingate finale

VICTORIA HASLAM, a finalist in Tenerife’s Got Talent, topped the bill at Wingate Seniors’ end-of-year celebration assembly.

The 14-year-old student, supported by backing dancers from her dance school, Vamos a Bailar, performed her recently-released single Too Good.

Students were entertained by six acts from different musical styles. Mathew Marshal and JJ Taylor-Gibson sang Replay by Iyaz.  Ander Colles played The Whistler on Vibraphone.
The audience also heard Scott Taylor sing She Said, by Plan B, while Qixuan Wang played the piano, featuring a beautiful version of The River Flows In You
Anne Feather (piano) and Emma Varnes (bass guitar) sang Two Is Better Than One, and Victoria performed as a member of the Wingate Choir, who sang High and Looking For Paradise, before delivering her own number.
The performances were interspersed with awards and prizes to round off the school year, and all the acts can be seen on the Wingate School website this month.

Lady and the Prince need a home

THESE loveable puppies, Charles and Charlotte, are looking for a new home after being rescued by San Miguel Police recently.

They are only six weeks old and are being looked after at the German animal sanctuary Aktiontier, in Granadilla.

As you can see, the puppies will grow into beautiful dogs. and all they need is food, water and lots of loving.

If you believe you can provide them with a loving home, you may visit the Refuge Accion del Sol, at the Granadilla Industrial Estate (underneath the windmills), from Monday to Friday, 3-6 pm.

Norman is the new Lion King
WESTHAVEN BAY, Costa del Silencio, was the venue for the Tenerife Sur Lion’s annual President’s dinner last Saturday.
Incoming President Norman Goodall MBE welcomed 80 members and guests, who were served with Cava and canapés at the pool terrace on arrival. followed by a delicious four-course meal in the restaurant.
In his presidential address, Norman thanked members and supporters for all their efforts, which had helped finance many of the charitable projects the Lions had been involved with during the year. They included:
Children’s Holiday: Preparations are well underway for sending a group of under-privileged young people (and their carers) from some of the orphanages and schools across Tenerife for a week’s holiday in North Wales at Pontins, Prestatyn, this month.
Planned activities include trips to local attractions, including ice skating, ten-pin bowling and even a canal trip.
World Cup Raffle: A grand charity raffle draw takes place on World Cup Final night at The Garden Bar, Fanabe). Prizes include a signed Paul Scholes Manchester United shirt, an Arsenal shirt and other celebrity memorabilia.
Proceeds from the raffle will be shared equally by the Lions and the Help the Heroes Fund.

Mountainous task for fund-raisers
KAREN CLACK, leading fund-raiser for Aktiontier, is organising a sponsored walk up Mount Teide on 25th July to see the sunrise.
Her aim is to raise funds for the dog sanctuary, based at Accion Del Sol, Granadilla, and she is appealing for sponsors.
The walking party will set off at 3am and should arrive some four hours later at the summit, where they will see the sunrise, which offers the most amazing views.
The journey back down is about three hours, and the party will be escorted by the Atlantic Whale Foundation guides.,
They will divide the group into two, allowing for the really fit people to plough  ahead, while the others can take a more gentle approach. “You do need to be fairly fit for this,” warns Karen.
“I am asking businesses or individuals to collect a minimum of 50 euros each in sponsorship, which is realistic and achievable.”
Karen has already secured a number of company and individual sponsorships, and if anyone else would like to be involved, in any capacity, please contact her on 687 905 511.
