Veterans Athletics Championships - 25.06.2010

Arona will host the 2010 Veterans Athletics Championships. The mayor of Arona, Jose Alberto Gonzalez Reveron and the Tenerife Cabildo Minister of Sports, Damaso Arteaga, accompanied by the councillors of Sports and Tourism of the municipality of Arona, Francisco Toledo and Angel David Herrera, presented details of the event to be held at the Estadio Antonio Domínguez , 2nd -4th July.

The presentation was also attended by Javier Sabina, a representative of the Spanish Athletics Federation, noting that, “Arona was chosen to host this competition along with other Spanish cities, and this municipality was chosen because it works very well in the field of sport.
 Gonzalez Reveron said, “through the holding of this event, Arona is repositioned as a benchmark for national sport…we have excellent facilities available to the municipality for sport.”
Sports Councillor, Francisco Toledo, agreed adding that there are over 700 athletes in the area.
The Mayor added that the event will involve a significant number of athletes from all over the Spanish territory, who will move to our town with their families, and have the possibility not only to compete in a first class sporting facilities, but also to get to know Arona and enjoy the town from a tourist point of view.
 
Angel David Herrera said that, “In Arona, Sport and Tourism go together, and that such initiatives contribute both to raise awareness of the hotel infrastructure and to maintain high occupancy levels during the event.”
Damaso Arteaga concluded by saying that this will be the most important event in the sporting landscape of Tenerife and that Arona won the chance to host this championship with work, effort and efficiency.
