Live Arico Update
Upcoming events …
We have a fund-raiser at Rah Rahs, on the Apolo Centre, Los Cristianos, on Thursday, 15th July, from 9pm. Charlie Karlsen and Suzy Q will be singing, plus guests and a charity raffle. Come along and have some fun with us. On Sunday, 8th August, we are proud to be hosting an Auction Fun Day at the refuge. We already have some great lots, including a pool table, furniture and jewellery, which will be available to view from 3pm. There will also be a bbq and drinks for sale. Oasis Fm’s Chris Donoghue will be compering an afternoon of live entertainment ‒ and for the kids, we have a face-painter and bouncy castle. Boxer Nicky Cook, the former super-featherweight world champion, will be signing autographs and all in all, we expect to have a great afternoon. All proceeds will go towards the upkeep of our refuge dogs, and you can say hello to them on the day, of course. For further information, please call Chris on 672 917 193 or Suzy Q on the number below. Hope to see you there. Revised adoption procedures A minimum 50-euro donation for an adopted male dog, and 75 euros for a female, is now required by Live Arico. This is paid direct to Hospivet Sur on collection of your new pet, which will be chipped, neutered, vaccinated and wormed.
Willing hands wanted Meanwhile, it’s business as usual at Live Arico as we strive to make our dogs as comfortable as possible in their new home. Much work has already been done, and plenty more remains. To that end, we desperately need some metal poles, at least 2.5metres in length by at least 40cm in diameter ‒ and several pairs of voluntary hands! If you can help with either request, please call Chris, who is co-ordinating the building work, on 672 917 193.
South Tenerife Rescue Centre We have sold 504 square metres of land up to now, making a total of 2,520 euros. Our 2010 calendar sales made 2,999 euros, of which, a total of 1,000 euros has been used to buy building materials at the new refuge. So the land account total now stands at 4,519 euros. We’re getting there! The plan to buy our own plot of land remains, possibly even the land we are now renting, so would you be prepared to buy a square metre of land for Live Arico? At just five euros, you will receive a certificate from Live Arico for now, and your name and number of square metres purchased will be on a Roll of Honour in the welcome centre at the new refuge. Live Arico Flight Line Anyone booking flights to and from the UK with the Live Arico Flight Line will get them at competitive prices, and will also help our dogs. Call now on 922 794 918 and please quote Live Arico Flightline. Dog-grooming Claire is now offering 10% of her fee to Live Arico. She has 18 years of experience, so call her on 660 862 910 for an appointment, and quote Live Arico so we can receive our donation. Live Arico Shop news (in association with Tenerife Nursing and Care) Good news for customers – the shop has now been transferred to the frontline of Coral Mar, at ground level, right next door to the Coral Bar. This will make life far easier for everyone: cars unloading can park right outside, and our elderly and disabled customers will no longer have to negotiate the stairs. Blood-pressure testing is now taking place in the shop again, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 11am to 12.30pm. We now have a fantastic range of hand-made cards for all occasions. They are decorated beautifully and cost from two euros.
More bric-a-brac is needed, so why not have a grand clear-out and bring your unwanted items to us? We are also grateful for items of furniture as we are now working in conjunction with Fish for Furniture, at Los Abrigos and Idea, in Adeje. Call Rick to arrange pick-ups. If you are on the Golf del Sur and cannot travel to Silencio, you are welcome to drop off shop donations at the Winter Gardens Gym and they will be brought to us. And we are grateful for any donations of cat and dog food at the shop. Through popular demand, the shop now has new opening times: Mon-Fri – 10-4pm. Sat – 10-2. Sunday: Closed. When an event is being held in Coral Mar Square, the shop will also be open. Live Arico hot lines For any questions about the shop, the dogs or Live Arico – or if you would like to make a donation and need somebody to pick it up – call Debbie on the number below.
