Rachel’s three-hour marathon swim - 18.06.2010
AFTER many months of daily training, Rachel Sandford took to the water at Playa las Vistas last Sunday, and swam back and forth for a solid three hours, covering a total of ten kilometres.

Rachel, proprietor of Rachel’s Motors, in Las Chafiras, has helped the K9 refuge on numerous occasions, but this time it was Live Arico’s turn to reap the benefits.
Her original route was to be Los Abrigos to El Medano and back, but the Cruz Roja (Red Cross) would not sanction this because of the hazardous conditions around the Red Rock.
Plan B was Playa las Vistas to Costa Adeje, but the cost of the obligatory Red Cross accompaniment by boat would have lessened the amount for Live Arico, so Rachel decided to swim the length of Las Vistas bay 16 times to make up the distance.

While she was busy in the water, other Live Arico supporters set off on a sponsored walk, which turned into a bar crawl in search of much-needed change.
Many thanks to Andy Logan (sponsorship of 350 euros) and Michaela Bridges (who dressed as Sam, her white poodle) for collecting a further 235 euros in loose change. Also to Vanessa and Ket, from Tenerife Sunshine, for 160 euros.
Rachel’s sponsorship money has not all been collected yet, but we estimate around 1,600 euros, making a total of some 2,350 euros. Not bad for a morning’s work, and all at Live Arico send heartfelt thanks.
Willing hands wanted
Meanwhile, it’s business as usual at Live Arico as we strive to make our dogs as comfortable as possible in their new home.
Much work has already been done, and plenty more remains. To that end, we desperately need some metal poles, at least 2.5metres in length by at least 40cm in diameter  ‒ and several pairs of voluntary hands!
If you can help with either request, please call Chris, who is co-ordinating the building work, on 672 917 193.
